Bannockburn Pinot Noir 2024

Bannockburn Pinot Noir is the estate’s Geelong Pinot Noir, assembled from all of its Pinot blocks.

Ten months in hogsheads and puncheons with a quarter new oak, then blending: the élevage is short and deliberately undemonstrative, which leaves room for the parcels to show. Those parcels are Olive Tree Hill (1976), 10 Rows (1991), Stuart Block (1997), Anns Block (2004) and, as the cream on top, the close-planted De La Terre block from 2007. All sit on volcanic loam and dark clay over limestone, planted mostly to MV6 with Dijon clones alongside. Each fermented separately with about 20 per cent bunches and a carbonic portion.

Perfume comes first: flowers, spice, earth, a whiff of reduction, brambly berries. The core is bright and tight, framed by fine tannin and lively acidity. Give it air, serve at 15 degrees, and put roast duck on the table.
