Bannockburn Pinot Noir Museum 2013

Bannockburn Pinot Noir Museum is a cellar-aged Geelong Pinot Noir released by the estate a decade on.

Whole bunches went in whole — 100 per cent of the fruit — and the wine then had eighteen months across barriques, hogsheads and puncheons, 30 per cent of them new. That is a firmer, more old-school regime than the estate runs today, and it gives the 2013 the frame to carry this much age. Fruit came from blocks planted in 1976, 1997 and 2007, some of it from the close-planted sites, all on volcanic loam and dark clay above limestone, mostly MV6 with Dijon clones 114, 115 and 777 alongside.

Stem spice and dried cherry, tea leaf, undergrowth and a fine, resolved tannin. It is drinking now and needs no more cellar time. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. Duck, game terrine, or a mushroom and tarragon pie.
