Bannockburn Pinot Noir Museum 2014

Bannockburn Pinot Noir Museum is a Geelong Pinot Noir held back by the estate and released with age.

The Hooper family keep a portion of each vintage in the cellar and let it out when they think the wine has arrived, which is a rare thing to find on a shelf. This 2014 drew on blocks planted in 1976, 1997 and 2007, including some of the close-planted fruit, grown on volcanic loam and dark clay over a limestone base and planted mainly to MV6 with Dijon selections 114, 115 and 777. It fermented with full whole-bunch inclusion and matured eighteen months across barriques, hogsheads and puncheons, 30 per cent of them new.

Mature and savoury: dried red fruit, forest floor, sweet spice and a whisper of stem, with tannin now soft. Serve at 16 degrees and put it on the dinner table instead of back in the cellar. Roast duck, mushrooms on toast, aged comté.
