Description
Bannockburn Riesling is a dry Geelong Riesling from the estate’s original 1976 plantings.
Most of the fruit comes off ungrafted vines put in the ground in 1976, with a younger plot planted in 2015 adding a smaller share. That old, own-rooted material sits on limestone-rich ground in the Moorabool Valley, a cool corner of Geelong where the variety keeps its acidity without being picked underripe. Fermentation in 2021 ran across both tank and oak cask, and as in the vintages either side of it, nothing was added but a touch of sulphur. Matt Holmes has kept the handling deliberately plain, and the wine is better for the restraint.
Bone dry, as always here. Lime, white flowers and a faint waxiness, dry and tightly wound, with a chalky finish. Serve cold, 8 to 10 degrees. Oysters, sashimi, a Thai salad, or a plate of cold prawns with lemon.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
