Bannockburn Riesling 2022

Bannockburn Riesling is a dry Riesling from old, own-rooted vines in the Moorabool Valley.

Picking ran into late March in 2022, with fruit in excellent condition and yields slightly under average. Bunches were pressed whole, settled overnight and racked to tank for a cold, natural ferment, with nothing added beyond a little sulphur, the same as the vintages either side. The bulk of the crop comes from ungrafted 1976 plantings in the Olive Tree Hill vineyard, the oldest corner of the property, with a younger 2015 plot making up the rest. Under Matt Holmes this has quietly become one of the estate’s strongest wines.

Fine-boned and bone dry. Taut and citrus-driven, with lemon, grapefruit pith and white blossom, closing dry and mineral. Serve at 8 to 10 degrees. Good with oysters, ceviche, or a bowl of Vietnamese noodles and herbs.
