Bannockburn S.R.H. 2016

Bannockburn S.R.H. is a single-site Chardonnay from the oldest vines on the Bannockburn property.

Twelve rows in the Olive Tree Hill vineyard make this wine, planted in 1976 by the estate’s founder, whose initials it carries. The vines are own-rooted and dry-grown, and the bedrock beneath them is ancient marine sediment, where the saline backbone of the wine begins. Geelong’s Moorabool Valley supplies the cool, dry conditions that hold acidity while flavour ripens. The estate’s approach has stayed steady over the years: whole bunches pressed, a wild ferment in French oak, extended time on lees, and no stirring to fatten it out.

Expect a linear, mineral Chardonnay, with citrus, white stone fruit and a saline lift in place of richness. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees and give it time in the glass. Pairs with poached chicken, prawns, or a gruyère tart.
