Bannockburn Shiraz Museum 2011

Bannockburn Shiraz Museum is a cool-vintage Geelong Shiraz, cellared by the estate before release.

The clonal mix is part of the story — PT23, R6WV28 and Best’s Old Block — drawn from estate vineyards first planted in 1974 and added to in 2007, taking in the Range, Winery Block and De La Roche sites. Each parcel came in by hand and took its own wild yeast, roughly a tenth of it whole bunches, with a little fruit left to carbonic maceration. Pressings went to hogsheads and puncheons, a third new, and rested ten months, then spent a final six months in seasoned barriques before blending and bottling. A cooler year, and a lighter, more energetic wine for it.

Vivid fruit and savoury spice over gentle tannin, with fine acidity and a subtle earthiness. Fresh and quietly complex for its age. Serve at 16 to 17 degrees. Roast chicken, pork belly, or mushrooms with parsley.
