Bannockburn Shiraz Museum 2012

Bannockburn Shiraz Museum is a mature Geelong Shiraz from a near-perfect season.

Michael Glover worked with two blocks here — the Winery Block, established in 1990 and enlarged later that decade, and the Range Block, in the ground since 1974. 2012 was about as even as seasons get here, moderate throughout and without heat spikes, and Glover’s wines from that year are among the most elegant and pure of his time at the estate. A decade in bottle has barely moved this one along, with plenty of primary character still present and the savoury depth of the site holding the centre. These bottles leave the cellar only when the Hooper family judge them ready.

Silky, powerful and very complex, with dark fruit still forward, spice and earth behind, and tannin that has gone quiet. Serve at 17 degrees. Excellent with a winter braise, roast lamb, or a plate of hard cheese.
