Bannockburn Shiraz Museum 2013

Bannockburn Shiraz Museum is a warm-vintage Geelong Shiraz held back by the estate for a decade.

2013 was a warm year that produced structure and power, which suited Michael Glover’s preference for whole bunches: the fruit fermented as full bunches, then had twelve months in French puncheons with a third of them new, followed by another twelve in five-year-old barriques. Two blocks feed it: the Winery Block, in the ground from 1990 and widened later that decade, alongside the Range Block of 1974, both on the limestone-rich soils that define this property. A decade on, the wine is only beginning to hit its straps, which is the point of the museum programme.

Deep and broad, framed by firm structure and dusty, well-integrated tannin, with plenty of savoury nuance behind the flavour. It wants a decanter or a big glass at 17 to 18 degrees. Put it with a braise, or anything off the grill.
