Description
Bannockburn Winery Block Chardonnay is a limited barrel selection from the block at the centre of the estate.
A selection like this gets made only when the season justifies it, the kind of wine a French producer would call a tête de cuvée. Hand-picked parcels were whole-bunch pressed, settled overnight and racked to French oak hogsheads for a wild ferment with roughly 40 per cent new wood; malolactic conversion ran naturally through three-quarters of the blend, finishing in spring, and the wine then sat mostly unstirred on lees for ten months. The 2025 season was early, warm and dry, with a clean run through harvest, delivering concentration without costing the freshness this site is known for.
Ripe stone fruit, citrus and baked apple against straw, bread dough, petrichor and struck flint, gently reductive and saline, with wild honey and grilled peach filling out the middle. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees. Roast chicken or lobster.
