Description
Battle of Bosworth Exile Touriga Nacional brings the Portuguese port grape to McLaren Vale as a bright, juicy dry red.
The grape made its name in the Douro Valley, where it anchors port blends. The family planted it at Willunga because it handles hot, dry summers without fuss, on rows kept free of herbicide. Picked and raised as a dry red, it holds onto its floral top note and plummy depth.
Violets, dark plum and a fine chalky tannin. A light chill of 14–16°C suits it, and it is good alongside chorizo, grilled pork or mushroom risotto. Grenache drinkers, or anyone after a lighter Shiraz, will find familiar territory.
