Description
Battle of Bosworth White Boar is a big, concentrated Shiraz from McLaren Vale, built on fruit left to shrivel on the vine before picking.
At Willunga, the vineyards are worked organically, and this is the top red the estate makes. The team cuts the canes a few weeks ahead of harvest so the bunches dry in place, a trick taken from Amarone that drives up concentration. The name nods to the emblem Richard III carried on his standard.
Dried fruit, pepper and a firm tannin grip fill out the palate. Decant it, pour at 17–18°C, and it stands up to braised beef, venison or a wedge of aged cheddar. There is enough structure here to reward a few years in the cellar.
