Beau Rivage Chenin Blanc 2020

Beau Rivage Chenin Blanc is a dry Californian Chenin Blanc grown on old organic vines in Clarksburg.

The change in 2020 happened in the press hall. Picking at much the same ripeness as the year before, the team altered how they handled the cake of solids, since the less it breaks up during pressing the lower the pH of the resulting must. That lets Kelley pick several weeks later and still finish with the freshness he wants. Everything else held steady: two lots at harvest, the sunny side crushed for extract and the shaded side pressed as whole clusters, indigenous ferments, and eight-year-old low-toast Burgundy barrels, with more solids each year building texture on lees.

Chalky and full of tension, marrying the texture of well-ripened Chenin Blanc with clarity, fine-boned structure and impressive length. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees. Good with roast pork, grilled fish, or a salad of pear and pecorino.
