Bekkers McLaren Vale Syrah 2021

Bekkers McLaren Vale Syrah is a fragrant, full-bodied Syrah that aims to show the finer side of McLaren Vale.

Shiraz is the most widely planted variety in McLaren Vale, but Toby and Emmanuelle Bekkers want to show that the best examples go beyond the big, ripe stereotype. They draw from carefully chosen vineyard parcels across the region, treating the landscape as an artist's palette to capture aromatic spice, elegance and a soft, silky texture, all underpinned by the Vale's generous flavours. The 2021 is opaque and aromatic, with plum and blackberry fruit and a savoury, umami depth.

Open an hour ahead or decant, then serve at 16 to 18 degrees. Try it with braised beef cheeks, barbecued lamb or a hearty mushroom pie. It will age gracefully for well over a decade.
