Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses 2022

Benjamin Leroux Auxey-Duresses is a white from three north-facing terroirs whose oldest vines date to 1946.

Auxey-Duresses sits in the valley behind Meursault, and its higher, cooler vineyards have long been a source of value for anyone prepared to look past the more famous name next door. Leroux draws on Les Hautés, La Macabrée and Les Boutonniers, all of which abut Meursault's Les Vireuils Dessous and Les Meix Chavaux. The land faces north and catches cold air rolling down from the Hautes Côtes, which makes it one of the fresher sites in the area and increasingly useful in warm vintages. The wine was vinified in 12-hectolitre casks, with a small part of the blend raised for fifteen months in 600-litre barrels. The combination gives a creamy core with the vibrancy and mineral cut of the place running through it.

Drinks superbly young and ages well for eight years or so. Serve at 10-12°C with roast pork, seared scallops or a gratin of potato and cream.
