Benjamin Leroux Beaune 1er Cru Les Cent-Vignes 2022

Les Cent-Vignes is a Beaune premier cru on the northern edge of town, and Benjamin Leroux bought his 0.5-hectare plot in 2021 after six years of working it under contract.

It is one of the first vineyards you meet heading west out of Beaune, on a gentle slope of brown grèze litée, the stratified limestone gravel that gives many of the better Beaune premiers crus their drainage and their fine tannin. Leroux began working with the grower here in 2015 and, convinced by the quality, took ownership so that the wine is now a domaine bottling. The plot is planted in two parcels: a block of 50-year-old vines that supplies depth and intensity, and a younger section planted in 2016 that brings freshness. Cellar work follows the house pattern, with careful sorting, gentle extraction and a modest share of new oak.

Approachable from two years and good for eight; serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, pork belly or a plate of charcuterie.
