Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Aligoté 2021

Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Aligoté blends the grower's own vines with fruit from his historical source in Bouzeron and a parcel of fifty-year-old vines in Meursault.

Leroux has a long history with Aligoté, as followers of his years at Domaine du Comte Armand will know, and he treats it as a serious variety rather than a by-product. This release supplements his own holdings with fruit from Bouzeron, the Côte Chalonnaise village that is the only appellation in Burgundy dedicated solely to the grape, and from Les Belles Roses in Meursault, where the vines are around fifty years old. The vine material in both vineyards is the high-quality, low-yielding Aligoté Doré cultivar. The wine fermented and aged in seasoned twelve-hectolitre oval casks and in glass Wine Globes; tasted separately, the oak-raised portion was more aromatic and racier while the glass-raised wine showed more mid-palate density, and the blend of the two combines both. It is bottled under screwcap.

Drink young and over three or four years; serve at 10–12°C with oysters, grilled prawns or a fresh goat's cheese.
