Description
Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc is drawn mostly from estate vines sitting just below the village boundary of Meursault.
Most Bourgogne Blanc is grown at the foot of the slope, across the D974 on heavier ground. Leroux's estate parcels are better placed: Les Millerands, Sous la Velle and Les Belles Côtes all lie on limestone-rich terroirs directly beneath the village-level vines of Meursault, supplemented here by purchased fruit from the Hautes Côtes de Beaune and a little Chardonnay from Vosne-Romanée. Even so, only 80 hectolitres were made. The wine was raised in 12- and 15-hectolitre foudres and 600-litre demi-muids before four months finishing in stainless steel. Working in large-format vessels allows Leroux to use lower levels of sulphur. The bottle is sealed under screwcap, and the wine finishes pithy, juicy and grapefruity.
Ready now and good for four or five years; serve at 10-12°C with grilled prawns, roast chicken or a simple goat's cheese.
