Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc 2022

Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Blanc is drawn mostly from estate vineyards in Meursault, on the lower slopes rather than the flat land across the main road.

Most Bourgogne Blanc comes from the foot of the hill and the far side of the D974, where the soils are deeper and the wines plainer. Leroux's holdings sit differently: seven parcels in total, the bulk of them estate vineyards in Meursault including Les Millerands, Sous la Velle and Les Belles Côtes, situated on the lower slopes of the Côte just below the village-level vines. To these he adds a small parcel of purchased fruit from the Hautes Côtes de Beaune above Pernand-Vergelesses, which lifts the acidity. Everything matures in large cask and foudre rather than barrique, so the oak influence is minimal and the wine keeps its cut. The result has more pith, texture and drive than the appellation usually delivers.

Good now and will hold three to five years. Serve at 11-12°C with roast chicken, seared scallops or a leek tart.
