Description
Benjamin Leroux Bourgogne Rouge is assembled from declassified fruit grown in named sites across the Côte de Beaune.
Regional Bourgogne is usually made from vineyards on the flat below the main slope, so the sources here are worth naming: Maison Dieu in Pommard, Mon Poulain in Volnay and Les Belles Côtes in Meursault, supplemented this year by village-level wine from Monthélie. Leroux built his business in Beaune on exactly this kind of blending, and he applies the same cellar work at every level of the range. Whole-bunch fermentation was used only on the components grown by the estate itself, with the rest destemmed. Maturation took place in 2,200-litre Grenier oak casks, large enough that the wood leaves no imprint on the fruit. It is a crunchy, red-fruited style with more depth than the label implies.
Drinking now and holding for four to six years. Serve at 16°C with charcuterie, roast chicken or a mushroom tart.
