Description

Benjamin Leroux Chambolle-Musigny is a village wine built around a parcel of Les Véroilles planted in 1955, with declassified premier cru fruit in the blend.

Chambolle-Musigny is the most delicately framed of the Côte de Nuits villages, its thin soils over limestone giving perfume and fine tannin rather than power. Leroux assembles this bottling from a range of sites: a 1955 parcel of Les Véroilles, in the village portion of that high, rocky vineyard; a healthy addition of Les Athets at the base of the hill on clay, silt and limestone; and some declassified premier cru from Les Chatelots. Those are outstanding terroirs for a wine at village level. Benjamin Leroux set up his own house in Beaune in 2007, having spent years running Domaine du Comte Armand, and buys fruit and farms land across the Côte d'Or. Here he used roughly 30 per cent whole bunches and 20 per cent new oak, a restrained frame for a village Chambolle.

Best from four or five years and good for a dozen. Serve at 16-18°C with roast duck, veal or a mushroom tart.
