Description
Benjamin Leroux's village Chambolle-Musigny is a blend of two lieux-dits at the base of the Chambolle hill.
Chambolle-Musigny is the most delicately framed of the Côte de Nuits communes, and its village wines at their best trade perfume and fine tannin for the depth found further north at Gevrey. The fruit here comes from Les Athets and Les Chardannes, both towards the foot of the slope on clay, silt and limestone soils, where the deeper ground gives flesh and the limestone keeps the line taut. Leroux, who has run his own house in Beaune since 2007 after a decade at Domaine du Comte Armand, used roughly 30% whole bunches and 20% new oak, a measured combination that lifts the aromatics without pushing the wine towards structure it does not need. The result is a pretty, perfumed and juicy village Chambolle in the classic mould.
Approachable now and good for six or seven years; serve at 16-18°C with roast chicken, pork loin or a plate of charcuterie.
