Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines 2022

Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Baudines sits high on the slope near the treeline at the south-western edge of the village.

Les Baudines is a 3.6-hectare premier cru on the southern boundary of Chassagne-Montrachet, effectively a continuation of Les Embazées but higher up the hillside, on poorer soil with a greater proportion of limestone. It is a cool site with mostly white, rocky clay, which makes it well suited to the fine-boned, chiselled style of Chassagne that Benjamin Leroux aims for. His vines were planted in the 1980s. Leroux made his name at Domaine du Comte Armand before setting up his own house in Beaune, and he treats bought and leased parcels with the same rigour as any domaine holding. One-third new oak was used, and while this release carries more flesh and opulence than the site usually offers, it remains a mineral reading of the terroir.

Drinkable from release and best between five and ten years; serve with grilled fish, roast chicken or Comté at 10-12°C.
