Benjamin Leroux Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Tête du Clos is a premier cru white from the top of Morgeot.

Leroux describes this site as the Chevalier-Montrachet of the south, and the comparison is really about rock: it sits at the apex of Morgeot, one of that vineyard’s many sub-climats, with barely twenty centimetres of topsoil over white clay and surface limestone. The altitude is much the same as Les Embazées, yet the wine comes out both richer and more mineral. His 0.4-hectare old-vine parcel was planted in 1955, and those vines give small, concentrated clusters, which is the source of the depth behind the baby-grand-cru talk. Thirty-six bottles shipped.

Deep and rich, with exotic stone fruit, citrus oil and a powerful, very long finish. Hedonistic by the standards of the commune. Serve at 13 degrees and give it air. Lobster, roast veal, or a truffled chicken.
