Benjamin Leroux Clos Vougeot Grand Cru Petit Maupertuis comes from 60-year-old vines set right against the wall of the clos, in the sector regarded as its finest.

Clos de Vougeot is the largest Grand Cru of the Côte de Nuits at some 50 hectares, and the quality of any given bottling depends heavily on where in the walled vineyard the fruit was grown. Petit Maupertuis lies on the Flagey-Échezeaux side, just below Grands Échezeaux, and is farmed by Domaine François Lamarche and members of the Gros family among others. The lieu-dit consistently gives a Clos de Vougeot with more finesse than the site's reputation for solidity would suggest. Leroux's parcel runs to 0.15 hectares and produced very little in 2021. The wine was vinified with 80 per cent whole bunches and raised in a single new 456-litre barrel that had previously been used to ferment his white wines.

Worth cellaring five to eight years and drinking over the following decade; serve at 16-18°C with venison, duck confit or mushrooms on toast.
