Benjamin Leroux Côte de Nuits-Villages 2023

Benjamin Leroux Côte de Nuits-Villages comes from a certified organic hillside vineyard at Comblanchien, just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges.

Côte de Nuits-Villages takes in the villages at either end of the Côte de Nuits, and the southern communes of Comblanchien and Corgoloin are drawing increasing attention as a source of good reds and whites at sensible money. Leroux's fruit comes from two parcels covering 0.25 hectares on the slope above Comblanchien, one with 40-year-old vines and the other with vines of 15 years and more. The vineyard is certified organic and farmed by a friend and former colleague. Leroux jokes that limestone dust from the quarry nearby helps keep mildew off the berries. The wine began its ageing in barrel before being finished in foudre, in line with the restrained, unmarked style he applies across the range.

Drinkable within a year or two and good for eight; serve with roast chicken, charcuterie or duck at 16-18°C.
