Description
Les Cazetiers ranks with Clos Saint-Jacques and Lavaux Saint-Jacques among the finest premiers crus of Gevrey-Chambertin, and Leroux's parcel is worked biodynamically.
The vineyard covers 8.43 hectares on a steep face directly up-slope from the village, flanked by Clos Saint-Jacques on one side and Combe aux Moines on the other. Good Cazetiers is known less for weight than for refinement and precision, which is what the thin soils and gradient tend to give. Benjamin Leroux farms a mid-slope plot of 40-year-old Pinot Fin vines that he rates highly, and it has been under biodynamic management for several years. This release was fermented with two-thirds whole bunches and went first into a new barrel before being racked into an older one, limiting the mark of the wood. The wine is intensely perfumed, with a lacy delicacy that sits alongside real intensity.
Drinking from three years and good for a decade or more; serve at 16-18°C with roast lamb, duck or a mushroom tart.
