Benjamin Leroux Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Les Cazetiers is a premier cru red Burgundy from one of the commune’s finest slopes.

Cazetiers stands with Clos Saint-Jacques and Lavaux Saint-Jacques among the three best premiers crus in Gevrey: 8.43 steep hectares directly upslope from the village, flanked by Clos Saint-Jacques and Combe aux Moines. Jasper Morris writes that good Cazetiers gives a feeling of refinement and precision with intellectual appeal as well as vinous satisfaction, which is a fair description of what this plot does. Leroux’s forty-year-old Pinot Fin vines sit mid-slope on ground he calls gorgeous, worked biodynamically for several years now. Forty per cent whole bunches went into the 2024. Thirty-six bottles shipped.

Pure, fine and long, with red cherry, rose petal, stem spice and a firm mineral frame. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees, decanted, or cellar it for a decade. Roast duck, squab, or beef with morels.
