Benjamin Leroux Gevrey-Chambertin 2024

Benjamin Leroux Gevrey-Chambertin is a village red Burgundy with premier and grand cru fruit blended into it.

Yields held up slightly better in Gevrey than elsewhere in 2024, yet all the parcels still went into one wine, with only Cazetiers kept separate — which means premier cru Champeaux and grand cru Charmes are in this bottle. Most of the village material lies at the northern end of the commune below the town, with a significant share from above it, on the high, rocky Brochon side. That mix of low-lying richness and high-slope tension is what makes the wine work, and blending decisions like this one are a large part of why his village reds punch above their appellation.

Village in name only. Seriously classy and refined, with dark cherry, liquorice and a savoury edge, carried by fine, powdery tannin. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. Roast lamb, duck, or a beef and mushroom casserole.
