Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet is bottled only in magnum, from a 0.16-hectare plot that made just 300 litres this year.

Bâtard-Montrachet straddles the boundary between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet and is one of the great white Grand Crus of the Côte de Beaune, giving wines of weight and mineral drive in equal measure. Leroux's parcel of 40-year-old vines falls on the Chassagne side, directly across the road from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti holding in Le Montrachet and next to the Hospices de Beaune parcel. He took full control of the vineyard management here in 2016 and has since had the original stone entrance restored, which makes the plot easy to find from the track between Bâtard and Le Montrachet. Production is minuscule: the wine fermented and aged in a single used barrel, and the magnum is the only format made. It is sealed under Diam.

Worth five to ten years in the cellar and drinking well beyond; serve at 10-12°C with roast bresse chicken, scallops or a mature hard cheese.
