Description
Benjamin Leroux's Bâtard-Montrachet comes from 0.16 hectares of 40-year-old vines and is bottled only in magnum.
Bâtard-Montrachet straddles the boundary between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, immediately below Le Montrachet itself, and is the largest of the grand crus in the group. The Leroux plot sits on the Chassagne side, next to the parcel held by the Hospices de Beaune and only some fifteen metres across the road from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti holding in Le Montrachet. Leroux took full control of the vineyard management in 2016 and has since restored the original stone entrance, which makes the plot easy to pick out from the track. This release was among the first parcels picked and was raised in one- and two-year-old barrels, so there is no new wood in the wine.
Give it five to fifteen years, and decant if opening early; serve at 10-12°C with lobster, turbot in butter or a mature hard cheese.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
