Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet 1.5L MAGNUM 2024

Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet in 1.5-litre magnum is his finest white, in a format built to age.

The plot runs to 0.16 hectares of forty-year-old vines, next to the Hospices de Beaune parcel and about fifteen metres across the road from DRC’s holding in Le Montrachet — on the Chassagne side of the vineyard, for those who ask. Leroux took over full control of the vineyard work in 2016 and has since restored the original stone entrance on the road between Montrachet and Bâtard, so the plot is easy to find. Twelve bottles were shipped. In magnum the wine ages more slowly still, which matters for a grand cru with this much structure ahead of it.

A grand cru that whispers. Profoundly deep yet restrained, showing structure and freshness before weight: citrus, hazelnut, white flowers and a long mineral line. Serve at 13 degrees. Turbot, lobster, or Bresse chicken. Best given years.
