Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet 2023

Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bâtard-Montrachet comes from 0.16 hectares of 40-year-old vines a few metres from the boundary with Le Montrachet.

Bâtard-Montrachet straddles the boundary between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, and Leroux's parcel falls on the Chassagne side, next to the Hospices de Beaune's holding and directly across the road from the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti parcel of Le Montrachet. The plot is small at 0.16 hectares and the vines are around 40 years old; Leroux took full control of the vineyard work in 2016 and has since restored the original stone entrance to the parcel. In 2023 Bâtard was among the first of his vineyards picked, alongside Les Genevrières. Three barrels were made, with less than a third new oak, amounting to a single 228-litre barrel, in keeping with the restrained élevage he applies throughout the range.

Worth five to twenty years in the cellar; serve with lobster, turbot or poultry in cream at 10-12°C.
