Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Bonnes-Mares 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Benjamin Leroux Bonnes-Mares comes from a 0.1-hectare parcel planted in 1983 and managed organically since, in the Chambolle sector of the grand cru, bottled in magnum.

Bonnes-Mares straddles the boundary between Chambolle-Musigny and Morey-Saint-Denis, and the two halves behave differently: the Morey side is darker and firmer, while the Chambolle side, where this parcel lies, is finer-boned. Leroux's holding neighbours Christophe Roumier's vines in the southern sector, on the soil type locally called terres blanches, rocky ground rich in limestone and fossils. The vines have always been farmed organically. Like most of Leroux's grand crus the parcel is tiny, and only two barrels were produced in this vintage. He included 15 per cent whole bunches, a restrained proportion that suits the site's natural structure, and the magnums are closed with natural cork.

Best given five to eight years and capable of far longer; serve at 16–18°C with roast lamb, duck or a mature hard cheese.
