Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Clos de Vougeot Petit Maupertuis 2022

Benjamin Leroux's Clos de Vougeot comes from Petit Maupertuis, a lieu-dit on the upper Flagey-Echézeaux side of the clos, just below Grands Echézeaux.

Clos de Vougeot is a 50-hectare grand cru with more than 80 owners, and the ground runs from well-drained upper slopes down to heavier, flatter soils by the road, so the label alone tells you little. Petit Maupertuis sits in the best part of it, and the growers who farm there, among them Domaine François Lamarche and members of the Gros family, consistently draw more finesse from the site than the appellation's general reputation suggests. Leroux works a 0.15-hectare parcel of 60-year-old vines right against the wall of the clos. As in the previous release the wine was vinified with 80% whole bunches and raised in a single new 450-litre barrel that had already been used to ferment white wine, which softens the effect of the new wood.

Cellar for eight to fifteen years; serve at 16-18°C with roast beef, game or a mature hard cheese.
