Description
Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne in 1.5-litre magnum is a structured grand cru white for the cellar.
Two lieux-dits feed the blend, Les Languettes and En Charlemagne. The first sits high on the Aloxe-Corton flank, hemmed in by Le Corton above and Les Pougets alongside, and it runs cold. Whole clusters go to press uncrushed, the juice settles briefly, and ferment proceeds without sulphur across casks large and small, a third of the wood new. The white soils here give something far more structured and taut than the Corton Blanc off Les Grandes Lolières. Six bottles were shipped, and a magnum of a wine this tightly wound is a long-term proposition, not a Tuesday night one.
Corton-Charlemagne in its taut register. Intense and deep, full of energy, with lemon, hazelnut, flint and a finish that tightens as it goes. Serve at 13 degrees, decanted. Lobster, turbot, or capon with morels. Give it a decade.
