Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne 2024

Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Corton-Charlemagne is a powerful white from the Corton hill.

Whole grapes go to press without crushing, the juice is only lightly settled, and fermentation runs without sulphur across a mix of small and large casks, a third of them new — a hands-off sequence that suits fruit with this much natural structure. The blend comes from Les Languettes, a cool spot in Aloxe-Corton between Les Pougets and Le Corton, together with en Charlemagne. White soils here push the wine towards tension and grip, a long way from the riper, rounder Corton Blanc off Les Grandes Lolières. Six bottles shipped.

Structure before flesh. Taut and intense, with citrus zest, crushed stone, hazelnut and a driving finish. It will improve for many years yet. Serve at 13 degrees. Lobster, scallops, or poached chicken with cream and morels.
