Description
This is Corton Blanc rather than Corton-Charlemagne, a rare grand cru white from the Les Grandes Lolières climat and Leroux's first white from the site.
Corton Blanc covers the plots on the hill of Corton that fall outside the Corton-Charlemagne boundary, and very little is made: in 2018 only 4.18 hectares were declared across the whole appellation, so plenty of experienced Burgundy drinkers have never tasted one. Les Grandes Lolières lies close to the village of Ladoix-Serrigny on the eastern flank of the hill, facing due east, and Leroux had previously drawn Pinot Noir from the vineyard before turning a parcel over to white. The wine has energy and depth of fruit with a punchy freshness and a long, earthy finish. A portion was made in a glass Wineglobe, which keeps that part of the blend free of any oak influence.
Best from three to eight years; serve at 10-12°C with roast poultry, grilled fish or a creamy soft cheese.
