Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Corton Les Grandes Lolières 2023

Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Corton Les Grandes Lolières is a white Corton rather than a Corton-Charlemagne, one of the rarest appellations on the hill.

Corton Blanc is a separate appellation covering the few plots on the Corton hill that fall outside Corton-Charlemagne, and it is declared in very small quantity; in 2018 only 4.18 hectares were claimed across the whole hill, so many experienced Burgundy drinkers have never tasted one. Leroux previously took Pinot Noir from Les Grandes Lolières and this is his first white from the site. The vineyard lies downslope from Corton Le Rognet, close to the village of Ladoix-Serrigny, facing due east on very chalky ground that suits Chardonnay. A portion of the wine was raised in glass WineGlobes for added precision. Leroux picked on 3 September, well ahead of the proprietor's own harvest. The vineyard has since been pulled out for replanting.

Drink from three to twelve years; serve with lobster, roast chicken or veal in cream at 10-12°C.
