Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Corton Les Grandes Lolières is a rare white from the Corton hill.

This is Corton Blanc, not Corton-Charlemagne: a separate grand cru appellation covering a handful of plots outside the Charlemagne boundary, with only around four hectares typically declared, which is why so few Burgundy drinkers have ever tasted one. Les Grandes Lolières sits downslope from Corton Le Rognet, close to the village of Ladoix-Serrigny, facing due east over very chalky ground — proper Chardonnay terroir. Leroux had previously taken Pinot Noir from the site, and this was his first white from it. The vineyard has since been prepared for replanting, so the wine is already history. Six bottles shipped.

Energetic and racy, with plenty of ripe fruit behind the acidity: citrus of every kind, stone fruits and exotic flowers. Serve at 12 to 13 degrees. Scallops, roast chicken with tarragon, or a mild washed-rind cheese.
