Description
Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Echézeaux is a grand cru red Burgundy from the cool En Orveaux climat.
En Orveaux is a five-hectare climat on the Chambolle edge of Echézeaux, and one of its coolest corners, exposed to the wind funnelling down the Combe d’Orveau. It sits on the upper slope above Clos de Vougeot and Grands Echézeaux, where topsoil runs out quickly and roots meet hard limestone not unlike that of Premeaux — which is where the finesse, perfume and texture come from, along with the cool, lifted finish. This was the only grand cru Leroux made in the Côte de Nuits in 2024, and just two barrels exist. Six bottles shipped.
Very young and very dense, with red cherry, rose, spice and a cool mineral line running through. Decant it if you must open one now; otherwise cellar it. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees with duck, hare, or truffled potatoes.
