Benjamin Leroux Grand Cru Griottes-Chambertin 1.5L MAGNUM 2021

Benjamin Leroux Griottes-Chambertin is a grand cru red from the smallest of the Gevrey grand crus, bottled in magnum under natural cork.

Griotte-Chambertin covers just 2.73 hectares on the mid-slope of Gevrey-Chambertin, between Chapelle-Chambertin and Clos de Bèze, and its wines are usually described as the most perfumed and red-fruited of the Gevrey grand crus rather than the most powerful. Benjamin Leroux, who ran Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard before establishing his own négociant and domaine business in Beaune, has worked with this vineyard for some years, though Australia has seen only two allocations. His vines sit in the upper section towards the south of the grand cru. The wine was fermented with 50 per cent whole bunches, and just one 450-litre barrel was produced in this vintage, so quantities are minimal. The magnum format will slow its development further.

Worth five years in the cellar and good for two decades in this format; serve at 16–18°C with roast duck, game birds or aged hard cheese.
