Description
This magnum-only bottling comes from the upper Dessus section of Meursault's Genevrières, where Benjamin Leroux holds 0.12 hectares of 60-year-old vines farmed biodynamically since 2014.
Genevrières is one of the great premiers crus of Meursault, and the Dessus part sits higher on the slope, closer to Perrières, where the soils are full of hard Bathonian limestone and the topsoil thin. It should not be confused with Leroux's straight Genevrières bottling, which comes from elsewhere in the vineyard and gives a rounder, broader wine. This is the more archetypal of the two: fine-boned, with floral, citrus and lime-blossom aromatics, pungent mineral character and a long, rocky close. In good years the parcel yields only two barrels, and the crop here filled a 228-litre and a 300-litre barrel, neither of them new. It ranks among the top whites in the cellar.
Reward comes with five years or more in bottle; serve at 10-12°C with turbot, scallops or a firm alpine cheese.
