Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Le Porusot 2020

Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Le Porusot is made from 0.3 hectares of organically farmed vines in Le Porusot Dessus, the section bordering Genevrières.

Le Porusot is one of the smaller Premiers Crus of Meursault, sitting in the run of crus at the Monthelie end of the village alongside Genevrières, Charmes and Perrières. Leroux's parcel is east-facing with very little topsoil over the rock, a configuration that tends to give tightly wound, stony wines rather than broad ones. Most of the fruit comes from vines planted in 1930 which crop tiny, concentrated berries, with the remainder from twenty-five-year-old plantings. The site has a reputation for layered, earthy Meursault, as the bottlings from Germain and Jobard demonstrate, and Leroux's version is consistently among his most mineral whites. The vineyard is managed organically. As with the rest of his Meursault range, the aim is transparency to site rather than the fat, buttery style once associated with the village.

Best from three years and good for a decade. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled crayfish, roast pork or a nutty alpine cheese.
