Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus 2021

Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes Dessus is a single-barrel wine from the steep upper sliver of Charmes, directly beneath Clos des Perrières.

Meursault is the broadest-shouldered of the Côte de Beaune white villages, and Les Charmes is its largest Premier Cru, split between an upper (dessus) and lower (dessous) section. The upper part has been singled out since the 1830s as the finer of the two: the slope is considerably steeper and the soil lighter and stonier, which tightens the wine and lifts its mineral line. Leroux acquired this parcel after the 2017 harvest, having won a hard-fought tender for a group of vineyards that also brought him plots in Volnay Santenots, Meursault-Blagny and a handful of village sites including Clos du Village. Only a single barrel was made this year, raised in a 520-litre cask previously used for the Bâtard-Montrachet. Sealed under Diam.

Approachable from three years and best between five and twelve; serve at 10-12°C with roast turbot, chicken in cream sauce or veal.
