Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus 2024

Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes-Dessus is a premier cru Meursault from a prized upper parcel.

Leroux won a hard-fought tender after the 2017 harvest to acquire these vines, along with a handful of village plots including Clos du Village; the real prizes in that deal were parcels in Volnay Santenots, Meursault-Blagny and this sliver of premier cru Charmes lying directly beneath Clos des Perrières. The vines went in during 1988, high in the Dessus band that nineteenth-century surveyors already rated the best ground in the climat. The wine it produces has always been special, and it is now in the hands of someone who knows what to do with it.

Deep and ripe but held in, earthy, with a long and insistent finish — intense and rock-and-roll, never serene. Brilliant young and better later. Serve at 13 degrees. Lobster, veal sweetbreads, or Bresse chicken with cream.
