Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 2022

Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières is drawn from two old-vine parcels in the gravelly limestone of the lower section of one of the village's greatest terroirs.

Meursault is the largest and richest of the Côte de Beaune's white wine villages, and Les Genevrières is widely rated its finest premier cru after Les Perrières. Benjamin Leroux ran Domaine du Comte Armand in Pommard before establishing his own house in Beaune, where he now makes wine from a long list of leased and purchased parcels across the Côte d'Or. His Genevrières comes from two old-vine plots in the Dessous, or lower, part of the vineyard, together adding up to a single hectare, which makes it his largest premier cru holding. Earlier releases were labelled Genevrières-Dessous, but that caused confusion with bottlings from Genevrières-Dessus, so the wine is now labelled simply Genevrières. These vines were replanted after the 2023 harvest, so the run of wines from them is nearly at an end. It was among the first parcels picked, and the result is a rich, powerful reading of the site.

Generous enough to enjoy young, though it should hold and build for eight to twelve years; serve with roast chicken, grilled lobster or aged Comté at 10-12°C.
