Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières 2023

Benjamin Leroux Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières is a single bottling that unites the upper and lower sections of the vineyard for the first time.

Les Genevrières is one of the great terroirs of Meursault, often mentioned in the same breath as Les Perrières, and it gives wines that combine richness with a floral, faintly honeyed lift. Leroux has previously bottled his vines from the upper part of the climat separately from those in the lower section known as Genevrières Dessous. Both parcels are now being progressively replanted because of problems with 161/49 rootstock, so this release is a transition, drawn from the best old vines in each. Leroux presses gently without crushing and ferments in cask, keeping new oak restrained so the site does the talking. The result is a Meursault of some scale that still carries the cooler, more mineral signature of the vineyard's stonier upper reaches.

It will drink well from around three years and hold for a decade, alongside roast chicken, scallops or Gruyère. Serve at 10 to 12°C.
