Description
Benjamin Leroux Meursault is an estate wine built from five of the grower's own parcels, with a fifth of the blend drawn from the high white marls of Bois de Blagny.
Meursault gives the broadest and most textured of the Côte de Beaune whites, and the interest in a village blend lies in which sites go into it. Here the fruit comes from Leroux's own vines in Moulin Landin, Les Criots, Bois de Blagny and Les Millerands, together with Clos du Village, one of the parcels he acquired after the 2017 harvest. Bois de Blagny accounts for twenty per cent and supplies the salty, mineral backbone; Leroux says that fruit can be almost too zesty on its own but is invaluable in the blend, particularly in warmer years. He notes the previous owner never realised the parcel was entitled to apply for Premier Cru status. Every site is certified organic and worked biodynamically, with the oldest vines dating to 1944. Fermentation and élevage took place in 300-litre and 600-litre barrels before racking to foudre and stainless steel.
Drink from two years and over the following eight. Serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, seared scallops or Comté.
