Benjamin Leroux Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce Sous Le Bois is a biodynamically farmed Chardonnay from one of the highest and stoniest sites in Meursault.

Blagny sits in the trees above Meursault, between 320 and 350 metres, and the winters up here bite. Leroux farms 1.5 of the 2.2 hectares of Chardonnay he has access to, on vines averaging fifty years and certified biodynamic, with rock close to the surface and very little soil over it. He makes no secret of his affection for the place; the In Blagny We Trust T-shirt is a running joke among visitors. What he values is the altitude and the cold nights, and the energy they still deliver as Burgundy warms. The 2024 was raised across several vessels, including a glass Wineglobe and a new egg-shaped foudre, and only a handful of bottles reached Australia.

Citrus and white flowers lead, with a stony, tightly wound centre and real drive through the finish. Serve at 12 degrees in a decent white-wine glass. Roast chicken with lemon, seared scallops, or a wedge of Comté will all sit well alongside.
